Introducing "Food for Thought" #66. The formula is simple: three short messages once a week to feed your mind.

Management

HOW TO MANAGE DIFFERENT GENERATIONS?

There is currently a clash of 4 generations on the job market, each having experienced a very different context. Boomers and Gen-Xers have experienced a much more difficult working environment, making them privileged to have a job. Conversely, generations Y and Z arrived in a world of abundant work and very low unemployment.

This creates a different balance of power in our organizations. The trend is that young people are more demanding than in the past in terms of management. Retention is more difficult with these generations. That's why it's never been more important to bring more love to leadership.

Leadership

BE CURIOUS TO BETTER UNDERSTAND EACH OTHER

Over the next 5 to 10 years, generations Y and Z will be in the majority on the job market. Managing these generations better starts with curiosity:

  • Getting to know each other to understand each other better;
  • Knowing how to embrace change and speed, which are inevitable with young people, is essential;
  • Open-mindedness to differences is also crucial.

Progress comes with curiosity, not judgment.

Motivation

INCREASE THE RETENTION OF YOUR YOUNG PEOPLE

Statistics show that 50% of young people plan to leave their jobs within 5 years. If you want to keep your young people or stand out as an employer with them, here are a few tips for you. In short, they want..:

  • A meaning, a strong mission;
  • A leader, not a boss or a chef;
  • Understand the whys and wherefores of change;
  • A place where they can express their talents and, above all, develop them;
  • Independence, autonomy, lots of autonomy;
  • To be consulted in decisions, to be seen and heard;
  • Work-life balance;
  • Clear expectations and guidelines;
  • Valuing diversity and inclusion.
