Introducing "Food for Thought" #88. The formula is simple: three short messages once a week to feed your mind.
Connection
Inspired by the Gottmans: the Blue Jay effect
Imagine a beautiful blue jay flying past your window. You are concentrating on doing something else. Your partner says, "Look at the beautiful blue jay!" Do you stop for a moment to observe and contemplate it with him or her?
Relationship experts John and Julie Gottman have observed that the couples who last the longest are those who know how to respond to each other's "bids for connection". We receive invitations to connect every day... but do we really take the time to respond?
Visit an explanation by our friend Benoît Chalifoux.
Relations
Bids for connection" at work
A colleague shares a challenge, a point of pride, a joke or a trivial question? It's not harmless. It's a bid for connection.
The question to ask yourself: "Can I see and hear these openings? And above all... " How do I respond?"
To ignore or minimize these moments is to miss a precious opportunity for connection.
Trust
Building trust, one step at a time
It's not the big speeches that build trust, but the little things we do every day. A smile, a sincere thank you, a thoughtful question. All these little moments are gains in the team's relationship account.
Why not take the test today with your colleagues?
-
Look for a "bid for connection" around you;
-
Answer them with curiosity;
-
Observe the effect this has on the other person.
