Introducing "Food for Thought" #14. The formula is simple: three short messages once a week to feed your mind.

Leadership

What can we do when more and more is asked of us?

As a manager, do you ever find yourself torn between your bosses' expectations and your team's work overload? Here are some thought-provoking questions to help you:

  1. What unrealistic expectations need to be addressed in a courageous conversation with your boss?
  2. What tasks could be eliminated if the team were reduced in size? (this question helps you eliminate the superfluous).
  3. What projects could you delegate to other departments or external services?
  4. What's the job description of the new team player you'd need to offset the work overload?

      Getting through the rough patches

Be 100%, 100% of the time! This idea is utopian and unrealistic in the long term. Here are a few principles, drawn from sport, to get you through the rough patches:

      1. Agree to slow down. Reduce your working hours or decrease your workload over a given period of time.
      2. Return to base. Prioritize your sleep, your diet, your physical activity and your periods of rejuvenation.
      3. Do the right thing. Listen to your body to find out what you need right now.
