Introducing "Food for Thought" #67. The formula is simple: three short messages once a week to feed your mind.
Management
HAVE A PERSON DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE (PDR)
For many of you, confident delegation is the key to success as a manager. The concept of the "Directly Responsible Person" (DPR), developed by Apple in the late 90s, is one way of achieving this.
Each project is assigned a PDR, ensuring clear and direct accountability. This system reduces the manager's mental workload and encourages team self-organization.
Accountability
INTRODUCE ACCOUNTABILITY PARTNERS
Once you have trusted PDRs, an effective method of ensuring project progress is to create duo or trio systems. The key for accountability partners is to have regular contact points on the agenda. The meeting should be short and cover the following points:
- Project progress;
- Need help;
- Priorities until next meeting.
Leadership
SETTING AN EXAMPLE
Don't talk about your philosophy, embody it. Leadership is more about responsibility than title.
The most powerful leadership is the sum of the actions, behaviors and attitudes you embody.
