Introducing "Food for Thought" #37. The formula is simple: three short messages once a week to feed your mind.

About your attention

In our age of information overload, our brains filter out distractions to avoid overload. Here are three key points concerning your attention:

  1. The amount of attention you have always remains constant. However, it's constantly being reallocated, sometimes not always where you'd like it to be.
  2. You always use 100% of your attention. There are no times when you are not fully attentive, but rather times when your attention is directed to other activities.
  3. Your attention is always going somewhere. So the question is: is your attention where it should be?

State of mind

Stay positive, but not at any price

Leaders have a tendency to think on the bright side, to see the glass as half full, and to pretend that everything's going well when it's not. We call this toxic positivity!

However, being positive in times of stress, while ignoring reality, can be not only ineffective, but also damaging to team members. Be positive while remaining realistic. People are simply looking for the truth!

Leadership

There is no natural leader

Vince Lombardi used to say: "You're not born a leader, you become one. You become one through hard work, as with everything else in life." Leadership potential does not depend on the character traits you possess, but rather on the life experiences you accumulate.
